Why dive with Woebegone?
Diving you can feel good about!
We are Dylan and Lara — born and raised on the South Coast, with more than 30 years of combined ocean experience. When we founded Woebegone Dive in Huskisson in 2018, we made a decision: environment comes before profit. That is still true on every single trip we run.
We are SDI-certified scuba instructors — so whether it's your first time underwater or your hundredth dive, you'll learn properly and dive with confidence.
We are affiliated with ORRCA — the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia — sharing a commitment to the protection and welfare of the whales, dolphins and seals that call these waters home. We carry no single-use plastics on board. We serve homemade plant-based food on our tours. And we keep our group sizes small — because when you are underwater with a grey nurse shark, you do not want twelve strangers crowding the moment.
This is scuba diving that gives something back. To the ocean, and to you.
WHAT YOU WILL ENCOUNTER
With over thirty dive sites, Jervis Bay is one extraordinary marine park.
Jervis Bay Marine Park is one of the most biodiverse temperate dive destinations on the Australian east coast. We visit over 30 dive sites featuring walls, swim-throughs, sponge gardens, kelp forests, and dramatic bommies. With most of them reachable in a short boat ride from Huskisson.
What you actually see on any given day depends on the season, the site, and what the ocean decides to do. Here is a sample of what has been waiting below the surface.

OUR JERVIS BAY SCUBA EXPERIENCES
Just getting started?
SDI Open Water Certification
Our SDI Open Water Course runs over three days, right here in Jervis Bay — some of the best diving south of the GBR. Three days in the water, in one of Australia's most beautiful marine environments, with experienced instructors and small groups.
You'll start in the pool and finish on the boat, gaining a globally recognised certification along the way. No experience needed — just a willingness to get in the water.
Day One — Theory and Pool
Dive theory, then into the pool to build your foundations. By the end of the day, the ocean feels a lot less daunting.
Day Two — Beach Dives in Booderee National Park
Two shore dives in calm coastal water — your first real taste of the reef.
Dive sites subject to weather. National Park entry fees may apply.
Day Three — Two Boat Dives in the Jervis Bay Marine Park
Out on our dive boat for two dives, with the real chance of rays, seals and grey nurse sharks gliding past.
Certified and Confident
After three days, you'll walk away a fully certified Open Water diver — confident in real ocean conditions, experienced in beach and boat diving, and ready to dive anywhere in the world.
What's Included

Internationally recognised SDI Open Water Diver certification

Double Boat SCUBA Dive
Explore the best of Jervis Bay on a two-tank adventure, guided by locals who know the bay better than anyone. Reefs, sea caves, sponge gardens, and the iconic residents that make these waters special — the weedy sea dragon, the grey nurse shark, the fur seal.
We pick the best sites for the day's conditions, so every trip goes where the ocean leads us.
Suitable for certified divers only.
What's Included
Two guided dives at the best sites of the day
A knowledgeable skipper and local dive guide
A scenic tour of the bay
Hot drinks and snacks onboard
Reef-safe sunscreen

Night Dive — One Tank, After Dark
The ocean doesn't switch off when the sun goes down. It changes shift.
Climb aboard at sunset and drop into a world that comes alive after dark — nocturnal hunters on the move, colours glowing under your dive light, and when you switch the light off, the quiet magic of bioluminescence.
Any site you've dived a hundred times by day becomes somewhere else entirely at night. Dark water, a single beam of light, and the thrill of seeing only as far as it reaches. It's as much a feeling as a dive.
Certified divers only.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
You need a valid scuba certification (Open Water or equivalent). If you are not yet certified, start with Discover Scuba to try it out, or jump straight into the Open Water Course if you are ready to commit — it includes four boat dives over three days and you will be certified at the end of it.
-
We deliberately keep group sizes small with low instructor-to-student ratios. This is not a cattle boat. You will know your instructor's name and they will know yours.
-
Absolutely. Many of Jervis Bay's best dive sites are multi-level — meaning you can explore at 6–12 metres and still encounter incredible marine life. The bay's protected, calm waters also make it one of the most forgiving environments to learn in on the NSW coast.
-
Around 2.5 hours south of Sydney on the Princes Highway. Huskisson — where we are based — is right on the water in the heart of the bay. Many guests combine a dive with a weekend away on the South Coast.
-
We dive year-round. October to May offers the warmest water (17–22°C) and best visibility. Winter brings fur seals (April–November) and humpback whales (June–November) — so there is a strong argument for diving in the cold. We can help you time a trip around what you most want to see.
What our divers have to say
★★★★★
My husband, 4 friends and I did the snorkelling tour last Sunday. We went to 2 sights near the entrance to the bay and saw many fish including a few grey nurse sharks and some very big wobbegongs. We swam through a cave and got some tips on free diving. We had the bonus of sighting a juvenile humpback breaching as we were packing up. It was a great experience.

It was an extraordinary experience snorkelling in the crystal clear and warm waters of Jervis Bay, viewing a massive number of fish, Dylan and his team were fantastic, informative and wanting to show us the very best of Jervis Bay.

Woebegone crew was amazing! Dylan, Em, and Jo were so kind and welcoming, and so thoughtful. The entire trip was amazing, and the complimentary snacks and drinks were incredibly generous. Thank you so much for the hospitality, will definitely be coming back to dive with you!
— Alyssa K, TripAdvisorWhy We Teach Scuba with SDI
At Woebegone Dive, we’ve chosen to teach scuba diving under Scuba Diving International (SDI) because it aligns with our values of accessibility, innovation, and real-world diving experience
.Unlike larger agencies focused heavily on marketing and branding, SDI was created by active dive professionals who wanted a more modern, flexible approach to training. SDI courses are designed to reflect real dive conditions, promote critical thinking, and embrace the use of modern dive technology like dive computers from day one — a practice we believe makes safer, more confident divers.
As a family-run dive business rooted in education and conservation, we love that SDI allows us to keep class sizes small, tailor our teaching to the student, and focus more on quality of instruction over quantity of certifications. SDI is internationally recognised and backed by the same global standards as other agencies, so your certification is valid anywhere in the world — just with a more personalised, progressive learning experience
